This rare chest dates back from the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mahmoud II, who ruled the Ottoman empire from 1808 to 1839. This box commemorates his victory in the year 1225 AH in his role as sultan between the two seas. Around the side are intricate Islamic geometric wooden carvings in the shapes of stars, drawing from calligraphy, and the crescent moon. The chest is made of wood and is worn, with a large crack through the lid.
