A LATE 17TH CENTURY ENGLISH BRASS LANTERN CLOCK

This brass clock resembles a lantern. Its arched frame holds a dome in place under which a small hammer protrudes from the clock and can be activitated to ring as a bell. Under the dome on three sides are three small decorative panels, etched and hollowed in a simple floral pattern. The main body of the clock is smoothed brass on three sides each with a small handle that allows the door to opened providing access to the interior of the clock. The front face of the clock features a ring in relief onto which the Roman numerals are engraved. In the centre of the ring behind the two slim black minute and hour hands is an extravagantly engraved floral pattern that appears to sprout out of six o'clock. The four corners not occupied by the clock face each feature a simple etched floral pattern. The clock stands on four feet which form the base of each column in the corner where the top appears to resemble a bishop chess piece.
